Naming Ceremonies

A naming ceremony is a lovely way to gather together with family and friends to welcome your new child into your lives.

An older child or an adopted child could also be the focus of a naming ceremony, as could be a house or a boat!

The naming ceremony can have many elements, and you can create a tradition that is both personal and memorable for you all to cherish in the future.

Some elements which can be included are:

  • Reading of poems
  • Offering a blessing
  • Exchanging gifts
  • Making promises

The ideal time and location are 11:00am on a Sunday in your backyard. Everyone knows where to go, and it is a comfortable, familiar environment. You can have a meal after the ceremony to continue the celebrations.

You can, of course, have your celebration at any time and at any location you want – you may have a favourite restaurant or park, and I’m available every day of the week for you.

Baby Namings, Christenings, and Baptisms, while time-honoured traditions are not required by law in Australia, nor do they have any legal requirements.

What happens now?

During this initial contact, we will determine if I am available for the day and time you have selected for your ceremony, and we will set a time for our first meeting.

I will follow up with an email confirming our meeting time and place.

At our meeting, I will help you create your unique and special naming ceremony. Together we will create a preliminary draft outline of your requirements, including music, readings, etc.

We will look at the role the godparents will play (if you are selecting godparents) and other family or friends you may wish to include in the ceremony process.

At this time, I will give you an invoice for the non-refundable booking fee, which is payable immediately (see Fees page) and secures the date and time we have agreed for your ceremony.

Following our meeting, I will prepare a ceremony document for you, taking into account everything we have discussed.

I will email/post this document to you, and we can then adjust and edit the ceremony until you are happy that it meets your requirements.

We will keep in touch by email and phone, and you will have confidence that everything is going to plan.

At least two weeks prior to your ceremony date, the balance of my fees must be paid in full.

I will arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony. I will be dressed to fit in with the style of your ceremony (as discussed with you). I will professionally conduct your naming ceremony. I will provide you with a bound copy of your naming ceremony as a keepsake and a commemorative naming certificate.
